NGC 2783 is an elliptical galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type E3 in the constellation Cancer on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 299 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light years in diameter. Together with IC 2449 , it forms the isolated galaxy pair KPG 192 or Holm 113 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 2789 and IC 2444 .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on March 13, 1785 .
