NGC 3005 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sb in the constellation Ursa Major at the northern sky . It is an estimated 204 million light years from the Milky Way and about 65,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 2998 , NGC 3006 , NGC 3008 , NGC 3009 .
The object was discovered by Bindon Blood Stoney on January 25, 1851 .
