NGC 2987 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sab in the constellation Sextant on the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 161 million light years from the Milky Way and about 75,000 ly in diameter.
The object was discovered on March 25, 1884 by the astronomer Édouard Stephan .
