NGC 2970 is an elliptical dwarf galaxy from the Hubble type E1 in Leo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 70 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 15,000 light years in diameter. Together with NGC 2964 and NGC 2968 , it forms the isolated galaxy triplet KTG 25 .
The galaxy NGC 2981 is located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on March 6, 1828 by John Herschel .
