NGC 2958 is a spiral galaxy from the Hubble type Sbc in Leo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 293 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 90,000 ly.
The galaxy IC 554 is located in the same area of the sky .
The type II supernova SN 2000I was observed here.
The object was discovered on March 7, 1877 by the astronomer Edouard Stephan .
