NGC 2947 = IC 547 = IC 2494 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBbc in the constellation Hydra south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 117 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years in diameter.
The property was discovered by Francis Preserved Leavenworth on May 6, 1886 .
