NGC 2923 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBb in the constellation Leo, north of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 362 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light-years across.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 2928 , NGC 2933 , NGC 2934 , NGC 2941 .
The Type II supernova SN 2005K was observed here.
The object was discovered by Albert Marth on April 1, 1864 .
