NGC 2981 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBbc in the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 463 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 165,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 2964 , NGC 2968 , NGC 2970 , among others .
The object was discovered by Samuel Oppenheim on March 27, 1886 .
