NGC 2976 is a spiral galaxy about 5 million light years away from the Milky Way . NGC 2976 is a companion galaxy to M81 and is a member of the M81 group of galaxies .
The galaxy was discovered on November 8, 1801 by the German-British astronomer Friedrich Wilhelm Herschel .
