NGC 2984 = IC 556 is a lens-shaped galaxy of the Hubble-type S0 in the constellation Leo at the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 273 million light years from the Milky Way and about 60,000 light years across.
The galaxies IC 552 and IC 557 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on March 15, 1784 by the astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
