NGC 2983 is a lenticular galaxy of Hubble type (RL) SB (s) 0 ^ + in the constellation Hydra , an estimated 82 million light-years from the Milky Way center.
The object was discovered on March 10, 1785 by the astronomer William Herschel with a 48 cm telescope.
