Lippeaue nature reserve (SO-007)
The Lippeaue nature reserve is a designated nature reserve (NSG) in the Soest district in 2004 . The NSG areas have belonged to various FFH areas since 2004 .
The NSG is located on the Lippe between Lippstadt in the east and the district border to Schmehausen in the west. It extends over a length of 25 km and has an area of about 1200 ha . It is located in the larger central part, where both banks of the Lippe belong to the Soest district, on both sides of the river. In the eastern part, between the localities of Lippstadt and Eickelborn , where the north bank belongs to the Warendorf district, the “ Lippeaue between Göttingen and Cappel ” nature reserve (WAF-006), which was already designated in 1987, borders on the north side of the Lippe . In the western part, near Schmehausen, Uentrop and Haaren , where the south bank belongs to the independent city of Hamm , the nature reserves "Schmehauser Mersch" (HAM-007), "Munnebach" (HAM-008) and " Haarener Lippeaue ”(HAM-009).
In two sub-areas, the Hellinghauser Wiesen (also Hellinghauser Mersch) and the Klostermersch, Taurus cattle and Koniks have been grazing on around 79 hectares and 55 hectares respectively , which shape the landscape through grazing. The Hellinghauser Mersch is located in the urban area of Lippstadt and extends about three km along the Lippe. White storks have settled here again after around 50 years . The animals can be observed from an artificial hill.

In the NSG many rare animal species like coming Hobby , Common Snipe , Kingfisher , river lamprey , curlew , crested grebe , great crested newt , Canada goose , lapwing , teal , spadefoot , teal , Cuckoo , Common Tree Frog , Shoveler , moderlieschen , Nightingale , backed Shrike , Golden Oriole , Partridge , marsh harrier , Red Kite , Sedge Warbler , Gadwall , Little Owl , Common Pochard , sand martin , water Rail , White stork , Harrier and Little grebe ago.
