Niels Gerardus Versteijnen (born February 3, 2000 in Tilburg , Netherlands ) is a Dutch handball player who is under contract with VfL Lübeck-Schwartau .

Career

Niels Versteijnen was born in Tilburg, the Netherlands. He played for the Dutch club White Demons until 2013 and then switched to RED-RAG Tachos . For the 2018/19 season he moved to the A-Junior team of the handball Bundesliga club SG Flensburg-Handewitt in the A-Youth-Bundesliga (handball) with which he became German A-Youth Champion.

In the 2019/20 season he switched to the professional team of SG Flensburg-Handewitt in the handball Bundesliga . Overall, he ran 14 times this season and scored 12 goals, 9 of them seven meters. Since January 1, 2020, Versteijnen has been playing for the second division club VfL Lübeck-Schwartau , but he is still entitled to play for SG Flensburg-Handewitt with second play rights.

Versteijnen ran for the Dutch youth and junior national team. He also took part in the U16 European Beach Handball Championship in 2016 and the U17 European Beach Handball Championship a year later. He is now a member of the Dutch national team . He took part in the 2020 European Championship .
