Nikolaj Ivanovich Paslar ( Bulgarian Николай Иванович Паслар ; born June 12, 1980 in Taraclia , Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic , Soviet Union ) is a Bulgarian wrestler of Moldovan origin. He was world champion in 2001 in the lightweight free style.

Career

Nikolaj Paslar was born in Taraclia in 1980, at that time still part of the Soviet Union. He started wrestling in 1990. He concentrated entirely on the free style. As a junior he started in 1996 at international championships for the Republic of Moldova. In 2000 he went to Bulgaria and started for that country from that point on. He wrestled there first for the wrestling club Rasgrad and later for Ljubimez -95. The 1.60 meter tall, very strong athlete was trained in the Bulgarian national team by Simeon Schterew . Since wrestling is Nikolaj Paslar's job, he has been featured in the German Bundesliga for many years. He already started for 1. Luckenwalder SC and KSV Köllerbach and since the 2009/10 season for SC Anger.

Nikolaj Paslar made his debut at international championships at the Junior European Championship 1996 (Juniors) in Sofia . In the featherweight he reached the 5th place. In the same year he also started at the Cadets Junior World Championship in Tehran and came in second in the weight class up to 60 kg body weight. He secured the same place at the Junior European Championship 1998 (Juniors) in Radoviš , Macedonia , where he lost to the Russian Saur Botajew in the final .

1999 turned out to be the most successful year in Nikolaj Paslar's career as a junior. He was first in Riga Junior European Champion (Juniors) in featherweight and then also won the Junior World Championship (Juniors) in Sydney in featherweight before Leonid Spiridonow from Russia and Mashallah Hosseini Sarangkeh from Iran .

In 2000 he started for the first time in an international senior championship for Bulgaria. Because of a bye, two victories over Ljulzim Vrenezi from Macedonia and Şamil Əfəndiyev from Azerbaijan , in a defeat against Emzarios Bedinidis from Georgia , were enough for him to reach 3rd place and thus to win an EM bronze medal . In the same year he also started at the Junior European Championship in Sofia in the lightweight and won his second European title there. In the final, he defeated Andriy Shyyka , who was then still starting for the Ukraine and later naturalized in Germany . At the Junior World Championship in Nantes in 2000 he was no longer so successful, because he only finished 8th in the lightweight there. After two wins, he failed there to the American Jared Eric Lawrence, against whom he lost on points.

The year 2001 turned out to be the most successful year of his entire wrestling career for the then 21 year old athlete. At the European Championships this year in Budapest he had to admit defeat in the lightweight after two fights in the semifinals against Irbek Farnijew from Russia, but in the fight for the European bronze medal he defeated Ljulzim Vrenezi on points. He was even more successful at the World Cup in Sofia. He won there in the lightweight over Sahit Kandibajew from Kazakhstan , Theodoris Kemeridis from Greece, Jhony José Cedeno from Venezuela , Emzarios Bedinidis from Georgia, Laszlo Szabolcs from Romania and in the final battle also over Amir Tavakolian from Iran, whom he won 6-1 techn. Defeated points for sure. This was the first time in his career that he became world champion among seniors.

In 2002 a new weight classification by the international wrestling association (FILA) came into force. The lightweight, which had its weight limit of 69 kg until 2001, was reduced to 66 kg body weight, the welter weight was reduced from 76 kg to 74 kg body weight. Nikolaj Paslar decided to start with the lightweight in the future and had to work off another 3 kg. In addition, he had in this weight class in Bulgaria in the multiple featherweight world champion Serafim Barzakow , who also wanted to start in the lightweight from 2002, a very difficult rival for the starting positions at the international championships.

In 2002 Nikolaj Paslar was only used at the European championship in Baku in the lightweight. After three wins he lost there in the semifinals against the Russian Saur Botajew, but won a European Championship bronze medal with a victory over Ömer Çubukçu from Turkey. At the 2002 World Cup in Tehran, Nikolaj Paslar had to start in the welterweight division because Serafim Barzakow competed in the lightweight. It soon became apparent that he was actually too small for this weight class. In Tehran he won two fights, but lost to Gurami Michedlidze from Georgia and only came in 11th place.

In the following years of his career, Nikolaj Paslar always started in the welterweight division despite the difficulties described. His successes in this weight class were nowhere near as much as in the lightweight. So he came at the 2003 World Cup in New York after a victory over the American Jean Diatta and a defeat against Buwaissar Saitijew only on 14th place. At the 2004 European Championships in Ankara he was more successful and defeated there u. a. Gábor Hatos from Hungary . Against Emzarios Bedinidis he had to accept another defeat, which threw him back to 5th place. Things didn't go well for him at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , the only games he was able to compete in, because there he lost his first fight against the Pole Krystian Brzozowski . A victory in the following fight over Sihamir Osmarov from Macedonia only brought him to 11th place.

2005 turned out to be a positive and exceptional year for Nikolaj Paslar. In fact, he became European welterweight champion in Varna . He also defeated Elşad Allahverdiyev from Azerbaijan, Volodymyr Syrotin from Ukraine, Dawit Akhmosulishvili from Georgia and Sergei Witkowski from Russia. This success should not be diminished by the fact that this post-Olympic year some strong wrestling countries, e.g. B. Russia, did not send their strongest wrestlers to this European Championship. At the 2005 World Cup in Budapest, Russia put Buwaissar Saitijew back in, who defeated Nikolaj Paslar on points again. Nikolaj Paslar showed strong performances in his other encounters and won a World Championship bronze medal with four wins.

Nikolaj Paslar was unable to build on these achievements at the following two international championships that he still contested. At the 2006 European Championships in Moscow , he lost again in his second fight against his feared opponent Emzarios Bedinidis and thus finished 10th and at the 2007 World Championships in Baku, after two victorious fights in the third fight, which he lost against Otar Tushishvili from Georgia, Final destination. He reached 12th place at this world championship.

After Baku he ended his international wrestling career. At the Bulgarian championships he still played a good role. In 2008 he finished second in the welterweight division behind Kiril Tersiew and in front of Iwan Deliwerski and in 2009 he came third in the middleweight division behind Miroslaw Gotschew and Nikolaj Stanchev.
