At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1939 , which took place from February 11th to 19th in Zakopane , Poland , a ski jumping competition was held.

For the first time, a (Reich) German, Josef Bradl , won this competition. Twice before, the world championship in ski jumping did not go to a Scandinavian representative. In 1925 the German Bohemian Willi Dick, who started for Czechoslovakia , won the title in Johannisbad and in 1933 in Innsbruck the Swiss Marcel Raymond . Bradl finished at the World Championships of 1938 in late February in Lahti fourth place nor his real homeland Austria and launched only by the place in March 1938 terminal for the German Reich.

In addition to Bradl, Franz Aschenwald (Austria) and Hans Lahr and Gustl Berauer (both Sudetenland , Czechoslovakia) were three other ski jumpers from connected areas in the German line-up.

Franz Aschenwald from Innsbruck had a serious fall in the first round and had to be transported to the hospital unconscious. Franz Haslberger from Reit im Winkl and Jan Schindler (Poland) also fell and did not compete in the second round.

Jan Szczepaniak from Poland suffered a leg injury during training and was unable to compete.
