Nowy Świat ( German New World , Kaschb. Nowi Swiat ) is a hamlet and Schulzenamt ( Polish sołectwo) in the Powiat Kartuski of the Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland . It belongs to the urban-and-rural community Żukowo (Zuckau) .

The place is in the north of the municipality on the Danziger Höhe and borders on Danzig in the east . The city center is about 15 kilometers away. Neighboring places are in Gdańsk's urban area: Osowa (Espenkrug) in the northeast, Nowy Świat in the east and Barniewice (Barnewitz) in the southeast; in the territory of the Żukowo municipality: Barniewice in the south, Borowiec ( Borowce , since 1878 Julienthal ) in the southwest, Tuchom (Groß Tuchom) in the west, Chwaszczyno (Quashin) in the northwest and Kowale (Kowalle) in the north.

The area belongs to the eastern edge of the Kashubian Switzerland and the north of the municipality is rich in smaller lakes.

history

Entrance to Nowy Świat

New World was a dwelling place and belonged to Gutsbezirk Barnewitz in district Karthaus , Region of Danzig in West Prussia . The seat of the district and the registry office was Pempau (Pępowo). The Evangelical Church was located in Klein Katz (Mały Kack) and since 1873 in Friedenau. Catholics were parish in Mattern (Matarnia). In 1905 the New World had 81 inhabitants.

After the First World War and the Peace Treaty of Versailles , Zuckau and the New World came to the resurrected Poland with the Polish Corridor in 1920 . The neighboring Espenkrug became an Osowa border town to the Free City of Danzig . The construction of the coal main line (Magistrala węglowa) to the sea port of Gdynia (Gdynia) divided the place into a western and an eastern part in 1921.

The village of Rębiechowo (Ramkau) ceded the eastern part of its district to the city of Danzig in 1973. Gdansk Airport was built in this area in the south . Nowy Świat was divided along the track. The eastern part came to the Osowa district of Gdańsk.

Until the end of 2008, the place belonged to the Schulzenamt Rębiechowo. Thanks to its development due to the favorable traffic situation, Nowy Świat received its own Schulzenamt.

The area of ​​the rural community belonged to the Pomeranian Voivodeship since 1920 . In 1945 the Gdansk Voivodeship was formed , which in 1975 was considerably reduced in size , with the powiat being dissolved. It was rebuilt in 1999 and the community came to the newly established Pomeranian Voivodeship. - The municipality of Żukowo was divided into Gromadas from 1954 to 1972 . Its main town received city ​​rights in 1989 .

The S6 expressway is three kilometers away. It leads to Danzig in the east or to Stettin in the west. The nearby voivodship road DW218 leads to Wejherowo (Neustadt in West Prussia) .

Gdańsk Osowa Train Station on the railway line to Gdynia is around 500 meters away. PKM has been serving Gdańsk Airport since September 2015 on the Gdańsk Wrzeszcz – Gdańsk Osowa railway .

The airport is 3.3 kilometers away, the long-distance train stations Gdynia and Wrzeszcz (Langfuhr) 16 and 18 kilometers respectively. There is also a connection to the Tricity's S-Bahn .
