Nuno Miguel Barbosa Morais (born January 29, 1984 in Penafiel ) is a Portuguese football player who currently plays for APOEL Nicosia .

Career

Morais started his career with his hometown club FC Penafiel until he signed a three-year contract with the English top club Chelsea in 2004 with an unknown transfer fee. He made his debut in January 2005 in the FA Cup game against Scunthorpe United . He played through the whole game.

However, he hardly got a professional assignment after that and spent most of the time with the reserve, like his compatriot Filipe Oliveira . Both were then also awarded to Marítimo Funchal in the 2005/2006 season. This summer both played in the Portuguese U-21s at the U-21 European Football Championship in 2006 in their own country. You were eliminated in the preliminary round.

After the loan, he returned to Chelsea and had two short appearances totaling less than 20 minutes in the two draws against Manchester United and Everton at home. On May 11, 2007 Morais moved to the Cypriot club APOEL Nicosia on a free transfer .

During his time there, Morais became a defensive midfielder and signed a new contract, valid until June 2012, which has been renewed several times. Since his debut he has been an important part of the defensive and thus it was possible to win several titles such as B. the First Division , the Cypriot Cup and twice the Cypriot Supercup. They even managed to get into the Champions League group phase when they defeated the teams EB / Streymur , FK Partizan Belgrade and FC Copenhagen in qualifying . In the group stage they were clearly inferior to the teams FC Porto , Atlético Madrid and their former club FC Chelsea and so they were bottom of the group. Nuno Morais achieved the greatest success in the Champions League with APOEL in the 2011/12 season when he and his team were able to prevail in the group stage against Zenit Saint Petersburg , FC Porto and Shakhtar Donetsk . After a success in the round of 16 against Olympique Lyon , he and his team were only stopped by Real Madrid in the quarter-finals .

In the domestic league, Nuno Morais has been part of the team for many years and has so far recorded a total of eight championship titles.
