Career

society

Roman Bezjak played in his youth at clubs such as NK Korotan Prevalje , NK Dravograd and NK Celje . For the 2007/08 season he made the leap into the professional squad and completed on April 9, 2008 in the game against NK Maribor , where he was used as a substitute in the last six minutes when Celje was already 2: 4 behind. In the following season he made his starting eleven debut on August 2, 2008 in the 0-0 draw against NK Domžale , in the second half he was replaced by Saša Bakarič . He scored his first league goal two weeks later in a 2-2 draw against NK Primorje . However, this was his only goal in the 2007/08 season. Bezjak had his most successful time at Celje in the 2011/12 season , where he scored around a third of all goals of his team with 16 goals this season and thus had a large share in relegation. Nevertheless, Celje was able to qualify for the first qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League 2012/13 , as they reached the final of the Pokal Slovenije 2011/12 , where they lost 3-2 on penalties to NK Maribor. However, they failed in the first qualifying round at the Moldovan representative FC Dacia Chișinău twice with 0: 1.

After Bezjak scored four goals in six games for Celje at the beginning of the 2012/13 season, he signed a four-year contract on August 22, 2012 with Bulgarian first division club Ludogorez Razgrad . He made his debut for Razgrad a month later in a 1-0 win over CSKA Sofia , where he came on for the first time. In his first season he scored a goal against FK Etar Veliko Tarnovo , as well as a brace each against FC Chernomorets Burgas and Slavia Sofia . Furthermore, he and his team won the A Grupa 2012/13 and thus qualified for the UEFA Champions League 2013/14 qualification. After teams like ŠK Slovan Bratislava and FK Partizan Belgrade were eliminated, Razgrad failed in the playoffs at FC Basel . Due to the defeat, Razgrad slipped into the group stage of the 2013/14 UEFA Europa League , where surprisingly they prevailed in a group with PSV Eindhoven , Dinamo Zagreb and Chornomorez Odessa and without a defeat they were group first with 16 points. Bezjak scored four goals in five group games, including a brace against Eindhoven. Bezjak also scores more often in the league than in the previous season , with four goals in the 5-1 win over FC Ljubimez in 2007 alone . In the sixteenth finals of the Europa League on February 20, 2014, he scored the 1-0 winner in a sensational away win against Lazio . Bezjak was also successful in the second leg with one goal and thus laid the foundation in a thrilling 3: 3 draw, which was enough for a surprising move into the second round. But in the round of 16 they failed at Valencia CF with 0: 1 and 0: 3.

On May 7, 2014 he scored the decisive 1-0 winning goal against Lokomotive Plovdiv , which brought Razgrad the championship two game days before the end of the season. Eight days later he won the Bulgarian Football Cup with Razgrad with a 1-0 win against Botev Plovdiv , where Bezjak also scored the winning goal. In summer 2015 he moved to Croatia to HNK Rijeka and in August 2016 to the German Bundesliga club SV Darmstadt 98 . In February 2017 he was loaned to the HNK Rijeka until the end of the season.

On February 1, 2018 he moved to Poland to the first division club Jagiellonia Białystok and became Polish runner-up there in the same year. But the next change followed in January 2019, this time to the Cypriot first division club APOEL Nicosia .

National team

After Bezjak had already played for various Slovenian youth teams, he made his international debut in the 2-0 defeat against Finland on August 14, 2013 when he came on for Valter Birsa in the 46th minute . So far, Bezjak has played 28 international matches for the Slovenian senior team , in which he scored four goals.
