The Wright State University Nutter Center (in short: Nutter Center ) is a multi-purpose arena on the campus of Wright State University in the US city of Fairborn , a suburb of Dayton , in the state of Ohio . It holds up to 11,500 spectators. Since its inauguration, the arena has been home to the women's and men's college basketball teams and the women's college volleyball teams of the Wright State Raiders , the sports division of Wright State University.

The hall in Greene County is named after the businessman , inventor and philanthropist Ervin J. Nutter. He donated US $ 1.5 million in 1986 to kick-start the construction of an event hall . Following the donation, the state of Ohio invested $ 8 million and Wright State University contributed a portion through income from tuition fees . After construction began in 1988, the building was erected by 400 construction workers within 20 months. The opening was celebrated on December 1, 1990. The Nutter Center with 260,000 sq ft (around 24,155 m 2 ) and 18 luxury boxes is equipped for a wide variety of events. There is also a running track, a fully equipped fitness studio , a multi-purpose room, changing rooms and classrooms. In addition to college sports, a. Concerts , ice cream and family shows such as Disney On Ice , circus ( Cirque du Soleil or Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus ), performances by the Blue Man Group , games by The Harlem Globetrotters . The multi-purpose arena was booked for 120 events within the first seven months.

Over the years various artists and bands have performed such as AC / DC , Kelly Clarkson , ZZ Top , Reba McEntire , Aerosmith , Aretha Franklin , the Trans-Siberian Orchestra , Korn , Elton John , James Taylor , Dierks Bentley , The Beach Boys , Rod Stewart , KISS , Jay-Z , Def Leppard , Toby Keith , Mötley Crüe , Carrie Underwood , Neil Diamond , Kid Rock , Lynyrd Skynyrd , Tina Turner , Kesha , Jason Aldean , Darius Rucker , Cher or Billy Joel at the Nutter Center.

In addition to the teams of the Wright State Raiders that bore franchise the Dayton Bombers in the ECHL in 1996 from their home games at Nutter Center before the hockey team ceased the operation of gambling in the year of 2009. The Dayton Wings of the World Basketball League (WBL), who were based in the arena from 1991 to 1992, made a short guest appearance. In the course of the US presidential election campaign in 2008 , events by applicants Barack Obama and John McCain also took place in the arena. On August 29, 2008, Sarah Palin was officially introduced as McCain's vice-presidential candidate at the Nutter Center.
