Until March 31, 2012, Osco was a political municipality in the Faido district, in the Leventina district of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland .

The village is at an altitude of 1161 m above sea level. M. on a beautiful terrace on the slope of Pizzo del Sole (2773 m above sea level); two and a half kilometers away from the Faido station of the Swiss Federal Railways .

history

The village was first mentioned in 1171 as Hoscho and in the Middle Ages one of the three degagne of the neighborhood ( vicinia ) formed Faido and was as such according to the statute (statuti) of 1237 and still formed one of the three degagne in 1864; today it is an independent vicinia.

Merger with Faido

On April 1, 2012, it merged with the municipalities of Anzonico , Calpiogna , Campello , Cavagnago , Chironico and Mairengo to form the existing municipality of Faido .

The village of Osco is located on a sunny terrace on the left slope of the Valle Leventina at 1157 meters on the Strada Alta . In a referendum in March 2004, the citizens of Osco rejected the merger of their municipality with Faido, Cavagnago, Mairengo, Calpiogna, Campello, Rossura , Anzonico, Chiggiogna , Calonico and Sobrio .

The municipality of Osco also included the Vigera, Freggio, Brusgnano and Modrengo fractions, as well as the Predelp and Somprei Mayensasses.
