Iran participated in the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal with a delegation of 84 athletes (80 men and 4 women) in 50 competitions in nine sports.

The Iranian athletes each won a silver and a bronze medal, putting Iran in 33rd place in the medal table. The wrestler Mansour Barzegar won the silver medal in freestyle wrestling of the welterweight division, while weightlifter Mohammad Nassiri secured bronze . The flag bearer at the opening ceremony was the Muslim wrestler Eskandar-Filabi .
