The men's 10 km open water swim at the 2012 Olympic Games in London was held on August 10, 2012 in Serpentine Lake in Hyde Park . 25 athletes took part. Olympic champion was Oussama Mellouli from Tunisia, who was the first swimmer in history to win medals both in open water and in the pool.

25 athletes had qualified for the competition:
- Ten swimmers who took the first ten places at the 2011 World Swimming Championships in Shanghai
- Nine swimmers who took part in the qualifying competition in Setúbal ( Portugal ) on 8./9. June 2012 took the first nine places
- Five swimmers who represented the five continental federations of FINA and who were determined by their placement in the qualifying competition of Setúbal
- A host nation swimmer
