The swimmers in the medal ranks have never been so fast at the Summer Olympics. The winner Clary swam an Olympic record, and the silver medalist Irie stayed under the old mark. Defending champion Lochte swam the exact same time as when he won the Olympic Games in Beijing.
In this competition, the Chinese Fenglin was able to improve the Chinese national record twice.
Just under half an hour later, Lochte also took part in the final of the 200 meter medley, in which he won the silver medal.
