The competition over 200m backstroke women at the 2012 Olympics in London was on 2 and 3 August 2012 at London Aquatics Center held. 37 athletes took part.

There were five preliminary runs. The 16 fastest swimmers of all heats qualified for the two semi-finals, which were held on the same day. The eight fastest starters of both races qualified here for the final on the next day.
