The competition over 100m backstroke men at the 2012 Olympics in London on 29 and 30 July 2012 at the London Aquatics Center held. 43 athletes took part.

There were six preliminary runs. The 16 fastest swimmers of all heats qualified for the two semi-finals that were held on the same day. Here too, the finalists qualified by setting the eight fastest times in both semi-finals.

Morosow had qualified for the semi-finals, but refrained from further participation. Since the semifinals took place shortly before the final of the 4 × 100 meter freestyle relay, Morosow concentrated on his participation in the final in the relay with which he won the bronze medal.
