Oskar Fromhold Friedrich Olof von Lindequist (born December 10, 1838 in Jülich , † April 16, 1915 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian field marshal .

Life

origin

He came from the Pomeranian noble family Lindequist , who had been raised to imperial nobility in Vienna in 1792 . He was the son of the Prussian lieutenant colonel Karl von Lindequist (1795–1874) and his first wife Lony (1808–1846), daughter of Christian Friedrich von Mayer . Friedrich von Lindequist (1862–1945), governor of German South West Africa, was his nephew.

Military career

Lindequist was a Prussian colonel general with the rank of field marshal and adjutant general of the emperor, à la suite of the 1st Guards Regiment on foot and the Grenadier Regiment "Queen Olga" (1st Württembergisches) No. 119 . He was chief of the 1st Nassau Infantry Regiment No. 87 . Lindequist was also dean of the Merseburg cathedral monastery and from 1911 until his death (1915) a member of the Prussian manor house .

Lindequist began his military career in the Prussian Army in 1857 as a lieutenant and became a captain in the general staff in 1868 . In 1872 he was promoted to wing adjutant of Kaiser Wilhelm I , in 1879 commander of the castle guard and in 1881 to colonel . From 1882 to 1883 he was commander of the 1st Guards Regiment on foot in Potsdam.

In 1887 he became major general and commander of the 1st Guard Infantry Brigade in Potsdam, and in 1890 Lieutenant General and commander of the 21st division in Frankfurt am Main . Also in 1890 Lindequist became adjutant general of Kaiser Wilhelm II and 1890–1895 commander of the 26th division in Stuttgart . In 1895 he was General of the Infantry and Commanding General of the XIII. Army Corps in Stuttgart. In this capacity he received the Grand Cross of the Order of the Württemberg Crown on March 5, 1897. In 1899 he was appointed Commanding General of the XVIII. Army Corps in Frankfurt, mainly personal due to its characteristics, because Frankfurt was considered a difficult area because of the relationship of the city to Prussia as a result of the annexation of 1866. In the same year Lindequist was awarded the Grand Cross with Crown of the Order of Philip the Magnanimous appreciated and Knight of the Order of the Black Eagle in 1902. From 1904 to 1907 he was Inspector General of the III. Army inspection in Hanover , during which he was promoted to Colonel General in 1906 .

In 1911 he became field marshal and at the same time a member of the Prussian manor house. He was also from 1910 to 1914 chairman of the "German Warrior League" ( Kyffhäuser Association ).
