Otto Hartz (1963)

Otto Hartz (born January 24, 1940 ; † August 22, 2015 in Munich ) was a German soccer player who worked from 1958 to 1972 in the then first-class soccer Oberliga Nord for the clubs Phönix Lübeck and Hannover 96 and in the second-rate Regionalliga Nord for Holstein Kiel and VfB Lübeck have played a total of 231 association games and scored 79 goals.

Career

Youth and Oberliga Nord, until 1963

The playful and technical talent of the young offensive player Otto Hartz was already evident in his time as a youth footballer. His athletic path took him to the German national youth team via the Schleswig-Holstein association selection . On May 15, 1958, he stormed in the international friendly match in Flensburg against Denmark in the DFB youth team. In the 4-2 success he formed the German attack on the left wing together with Willi Langemann , Günter Herrmann , Ernst Kuster and Konrad Heidner in the World Cup system at that time . With the white-blue-reds from the stadium on Travemünder Allee, the eagle carriers of Phoenix Lübeck, the young hopefuls made their debut on August 31, 1958 under coach Otto Westphal in an away draw of 1-1 against Holstein Kiel in the Oberliga Nord. Reinhold Ertel and Erich Dziwocki were among the veterans in the team. At the side of the scoring Eitel Galle , the young striker experienced in his second league year, 1959/60, with the 15th place in the table, the descent into the amateur camp. On January 24, 1960, on his 20th birthday, he scored three goals in a 4-2 home win against Bremerhaven 93. Hartz played 37 league games for Phoenix from 1958 to 1960 and scored nine goals. He stayed with the Eagle Bearers in 1960/61 and had to be content with his teammates with the runner-up in the amateur league Schleswig-Holstein . The performance of the talented winger led to the fact that the DFB nominated the attacker from Lübeck for the international match of the junior team U-23 on May 13, 1961 in Waterschei against Belgium. In the 3-1 success of the DFB talents, he formed the German attack on the left wing together with Gustav Flachenecker , Helmut Haller , Fred Heiser and Dieter Thun . He contributed a hit to the 3-1 success. The amateur soccer player from Schleswig-Holstein at that time was also listed in the German soccer table of the Kicker-Sportmagazin in the summer of 1961 under the heading "In the wider circle of the national team" on the left wing next to Albert Brülls and Heinz Vollmar . For the 1961/62 season he joined Hannover 96 in the Oberliga Nord.

The newcomer from Lübeck made his debut on the start day of the 1961/62 league round, August 6, 1961, under coach Günter Grothkopp in a 2-2 home draw against Bremerhaven 93 at Hannover 96 in the Oberliga Nord. He acted in attack alongside Fredy Heiser, Udo Nix and Georg Kellermann and scored the 1-0 lead for the 96ers in the first minute. He gained international experience in the two matches in the trade fair cup in September 1961 against Espanol Barcelona. However, the Catalans prevailed with two wins with the former Hungarian international striker Zoltán Czibor . Hartz showed his ability and also with 15 goals in 24 league appearances his scoring danger, but the "Reds" ended up only in 13th place at the end of the round. The sporting misery also led to a change of coach in December 1961 / January 1962: Grothkopp was replaced by Hannes Kirk until the end of the round. Hartz topped the internal goalscorer list. In the last year of the old first-class regional league system, 1962/63, Ninety-Six tried to improve vehemently with new coach Heinz Lucas and the new players Otto Laszig and Winfried Mittrowski, but nothing more than ninth place came out. This clearly missed the goal of being included in the new first class of the Bundesliga . Hartz had scored four goals in 22 league games. After two years in Hanover, he moved to Holstein Kiel for the 1963/64 season. Overall, Hartz is led in the Oberliga Nord with 83 games and 28 goals.

Regionalliga Nord, 1963 to 1972

With the blue-white-red "storks" from Holstein Kiel, Hartz celebrated the championship in the Regionalliga Nord in the 1964/65 season . Due to the strong offensive competition with Franz-Josef Hönig , Gerd Koll , Gerd Saborowski , Manfred Podlich , Jürgen Rohweder and Josef Pistauer , however, with five missions and one goal, he was not part of the regular cast. He was not used under the Braunschweig coach Helmuth Johannsen , who was only required for the promotion round. In the following year, 1965/66 , he missed defending the title with Kiel only by one point behind FC St. Pauli and by the poorer goal difference against the tied Göttingen the return to the Bundesliga promotion round. But he had scored nine goals for Kiel in 20 league games. Since in his fourth year with Holstein under coach Rudolf Faßnacht with five games (5 goals) he no longer played an essential role in the team, his path led him back to Lübeck for the 1967/68 season, he joined the club's green and white team Movement games.

In his first year at VfB, 1967/68, he scored five goals in 22 league games and the green-whites landed with coach Heinz Lucas in ninth place in the midfield. In his second VfB year, 1968/69, he was able to significantly expand his record to 32 missions with 18 hits. Under the new coach Kurt "Jockel" Krause and teammates like goalkeeper Manfred Bomke , field players Horst Wenzel , Claus Schygulla , Hans-Jürgen Wittfoth , Helmut Hosung , Rainer Waberski and Siegfried Bronnert he reached after a hard fight against the competitors from FC St. Pauli and SC Göttingen 05 the second place , and thus the entry into the Bundesliga promotion round . Hartz and colleagues then had no chance against the rivals from Oberhausen, Freiburg, Alsenborn and Hertha Zehlendorf from Berlin. The 28-year-old attacker completed all eight promotion round matches and scored one goal. When VfB was able to achieve third place again in 1970/71, another 16 (2 goals) were added for Hartz; but he was now mainly brought in as a substitute and also helped out several times in defense. After a total of 102 regional league appearances with 33 goals for VfB Lübeck, the former youth national player ended his high-class playing career in the summer of 1972.
