Otto Albrecht Philipp Ludwig von der Osten (born April 18, 1772 in Neuruppin , † June 21, 1841 in Schwedt / Oder ) was a Prussian major general .

His parents were Christian Philipp von der Osten (* June 21, 1730; † December 27, 1799) and his second wife Margarete Elisabeth Wilhelmine, born von Münchow (* September 11, 1738; † after 1797). She was the widow of Johann Siegmund von Kleist (* April 12, 1714 - October 21, 1757) and daughter of Major General Lorenz Ernst von Münchow .

Life

East came in 1783 as a Page in the Royal Institute Page and took effect on 27 August 1787 as a cadet in the Regiment of Dragoons "of Wylich and Lottum" the Prussian army one. There he was promoted to second lieutenant by the end of May 1790 . In the First Coalition War , Osten fought in the Battle of Kaiserslautern and in the battles near Zweibrücken , Altstadt, Hermersberg and the cannonade of Valmy . During the Wars of Liberation , Osten fought in the battles near Großbeeren , Dennewitz and Leipzig as well as in the battles near Courtray, Lamberfast, Issy and Villers Cotterets. Afterwards he found himself in the battles of Ligny , Belle Alliance and Lille as well as the sieges of Stettin and Antwerp as well as in the assault on Arnhem . For Dennewitz, Osten received the Iron Cross II. Class and for Arnheim the Russian Order of Saint Anne II. Class. At that time he was promoted to major on November 2, 1813 with a patent dated February 8, 1814 , and appointed to the status of a regular staff officer on February 29, 1814 . For Lille he was awarded the Iron Cross 1st Class on January 1, 1815. On September 1, 1815, he was appointed commander of the 2nd Dragoon Regiment and in recognition of his services during the Wars of Liberation, Osten received the oak leaves for Pour le Mérite on October 2, 1815.

After the war he was on March 30, 1817 Lieutenant Colonel and on March 30, 1824 Patent of 4 April 1824. Colonel promoted. For this he received the service cross on August 30, 1825 and the Order of the Red Eagle III on September 22, 1827 . Class. On 10 December 1830 the East was given illness his farewell as a major general with a pension of 1750 thalers. He died on June 21, 1841 in Schwedt as a knight of the Order of St. John .

In his assessment from the year 1815 by General von Roeder: "Is an excellent, brave and determined officer and he keeps the regiment, which he has led with much distinction in this war, in the most excellent condition and order and discipline."

Osten married on December 13, 1810 in Prenzlau Charlotte Struwe (* March 31, 1793 - June 18, 1853), a daughter of the Judicial Council Struwe. The couple had several children:
