Pär Johan Millqvist (born May 24, 1967 in Solna ) is a former Swedish football player . The defender , who twice won the Von Rosens Cup for the Swedish championship title, began a coaching career after his playing days .
Career
Player career
Millqvist started playing football at Solna club Råsunda IS . There the then second division club Djurgårdens IF discovered his talent and brought him into their own youth in 1982. At the Stockholm club he went through various youth teams and made his first division debut at the club, which had meanwhile been promoted to the Allsvenskan , in the 1986 season.
After Millqvist had to relegate with Djurgårdens IF as bottom of the table, he moved within the Allsvenskan to IFK Göteborg . Here he did not make a breakthrough in two seasons, but at the end of the 1987 season he was celebrated as the Swedish champion. Therefore, he joined the promoted Örebro SK before the first division season in 1989 . With the newcomer, he immediately qualified for the championship finals, in which he failed in the semifinals with the team at the eventual champions IFK Norrköping . In the long term, however, he was unable to establish himself here and came in five seasons to just over 50 games for the team from central Sweden.
Millqvist joined the second division Vasalunds IF in 1994 . With the team from his hometown of Solna, he played in the front area and again attracted attention in a higher class. After Fredrik Espmark's retirement due to an injury , local rivals AIK signed the full-back in 1996. With the first division he won the Swedish national cup in 1996 against Malmö FF and 1997 against IF Elfsborg . In the 1996/97 European Cup Winners' Cup , the team made it to the quarter-finals, where they met FC Barcelona . In the first leg at the Spanish representative, the Swedish team took the lead after a goal by Pascal Simpson , but Millqvist lost the game with her 1: 3. After a 1-1 draw in the second leg, however, the team was eliminated. After an injury in preparation for the 1998 season , he lost his regular place. As a substitute, he contributed in ten games to the tenth win of the championship title in the club's history. Nevertheless, he left the club after the end of the season and ran a season for the Stockholm club IF Brommapojkarna before ending his active career.
Coaching career
Millqvist returned to AIK in 2000 as an assistant coach. He subsequently worked under Stuart Baxter , Olle Nordin , Peter Larsson and Dušan Uhrin . After tensions arose in the course of the 2003 season while working with Richard Money , he left the club in autumn 2003.
Before the second division season in 2004 , Millqvist started his first job as a full-time coach at Bodens BK . After he had succeeded in relegation in the first year, he occupied a relegation place with the team for a long time in the following season. The club then separated from him shortly before the end of the season. In August 2006 he took over the coaching position at the first division relegated Assyriska Föreningen , who was in the relegation battle. At the end of the season he occupied a relegation place with the team. After the club failed there at Bunkeflo IF , Millqvist had to go here too.
2007 Millqvist took over the care of the second division climber IK Sirius from Magnus Pehrsson . Despite a small budget, he reached seventh place with the team in the 2007 season . After the start of the season was botched with four points from six games in the following season, the club sacked him and his assistant Gary Sundgren at the end of May. In December 2008, after his contract with IK Sirius, which was valid until the end of the season, he joined as head of sport at the lower-class FC Djursholm .
