Péter Halász (born July 23, 1976 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian conductor .

Life

Péter Halász was born in Budapest . After studying piano and composition in his hometown, he studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna in the class of Leopold Hager . In Lucerne , Péter Halász studied in the master classes of Bernard Haitink . At the Haydn Festival he was assistant to Ádám Fischer .

After his studies, Péter Halász worked as a répétiteur at the International Opera Studio at the Zurich Opera House with young singers (2002/2003). From 2003 to 2010 he was Kapellmeister at the State Theater in Mainz , where he conducted over fifteen different productions.

From 2011 to 2013 he was Deputy General Music Director at the Theater Aachen . During his two seasons in Aachen , Péter Halász conducted the premieres of Salvatore Sciarrino's Superflumina , Rossini's La Cenerentola , Johann Strauss ' Die Fledermaus , Verdi's Un ballo in maschera , and Poulenc's La voix humaine on one evening with Monteverdi's Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda .

With the premieres of Ariodante and Alcina he performed a Handel cycle on original instruments in Aachen . In addition, he directed performances of Bizet's Carmen , Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel , Verdi's Simon Boccanegra and Wagner's Tristan and Isolde .

Péter Halász made his debut as conductor of the Hungarian State Opera in 2010 at the invitation of Ádám Fischer with Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia . To this day he regularly leads the repertoire performances of the house in his hometown, including Rigoletto , Nabucco and La Traviata by Verdi, Turandot , Madama Butterfly and La bohéme by Puccini , Don Giovanni and Le nozze di Figaro by Mozart , as well as Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss .

As General Music Director of the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest (2013 to 2016), Péter Halász has conducted numerous successful opera premieres. He introduced himself to the Budapest audience in his new position at the house on the two hundredth birthday of Giuseppe Verdi Falstaff (2013). In the same year he directed the Hungarian premiere of Richard Strauss ' Die Frau ohne Schatten . In collaboration with director Jiří Menzel , Mozart's Così fan tutte was created in the 2013/14 season . The premiere of Weber's Der Freischütz took place in the same season . In 2015 he took on the first part of the new production of Richard Wagner's tetralogy Der Ring des Nibelungen with Das Rheingold . This was followed by Die Walküre (2016) and Siegfried (2017) under his musical direction . In 2016 he directed the Eastern European premiere of Thomas Adès ' The Tempest .

The gala concert for Plácido Domingo's first appearance at the Hungarian State Opera (2016) is also one of the highlights of those years.

Péter Halász regularly conducts gala concerts with singers such as Angela Gheorghiu , Vesselina Kasarova , Piotr Beczała , and Ferruccio Furlanetto .

In 2017 he was awarded the Golden Cross of Merit of the Republic of Hungary for his musical work.

In 2015 Péter Halász was invited to the Hamburg State Opera , where he made his debut with Puccini's Manon Lescaut . As a guest conductor, he was called to numerous other German opera houses, including: Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe , Staatstheater Kassel , Saarland State Theater , Music Theater in the Gelsenkirchen Revier and State Theater Braunschweig .

Invited personally by Zoltán Kocsis , Péter Halász made his debut at the podium of the Hungarian National Philharmonic (2016). In 2017 he conducted a concert with Hungarian works at the Nuremberg State Orchestra. He has also conducted concerts with the Budapest Philharmonic, the MAV Orchestra Budapest, the North German Philharmonic , the Mainz State Orchestra, the Aachen Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra .
