Sean Combs
Sean John Combs (born November 4, 1969 in Harlem , New York City ), also known under the pseudonyms Diddy , P. Diddy , Puff Daddy , Puffy , Swag , Love and Brother Love , is an American rapper , record producer , entrepreneur , Actor and fashion designer . He owns the fashion brand Sean John and since 2007 the vodka brand Cîroc .
Combs is one of the most famous American musicians and was named one of the 100 Most Influential People of 2005 by Time magazine .
life and career
Combs grew up in New York City, among other places. His mother raised him alone after his father was murdered in 1972. Combs later studied business administration at Howard University in Washington, DC However, he left college to work at Uptown Records .
In the early 1990s he worked there as a production assistant before founding his own record company Bad Boy Records in 1993 and producing artists such as The Notorious BIG , Junior Mafia , Lil 'Kim and Craig Mack .
After his friend Notorious BIG was murdered, he started in 1997 his own singing career with the release of the album No Way Out , which with a Grammy Award. It contained songs like It's All About the Benjamin , Can't Nobody Hold Me Down or I'll Be Missing You . The latter was a cover version of The Police's hit Every Breath You Take . The song, on which Notorious BIG's widow Faith Evans also participated, was supposed to pay homage to the rapper. He played this song at the MTV Video Music Awards with Sting , former singer of The Police.
In 1998 he founded the fashion brand Sean John . For this he was awarded the Council of Fashion Designers of America's Fashion Prize in 2004, and had been nominated five times before. He was criticized because of the production conditions for his clothes at low wages in Honduras . In response to the criticism, Combs campaigned for a significant improvement in working conditions.
In 1999 he was involved in a shootout at a New York disco with his then girlfriend Jennifer Lopez . In the subsequent criminal trial for illicit gun possession, in which he was defended by attorney Johnnie Cochran , he was acquitted.
The second album, Forever , followed in 1999 , and the single Satisfy You with R. Kelly was a success.
As an actor, he appeared in the film Monster's Ball and in the new edition of Carlito's Way .
His third solo album The Saga Continues followed in 2002 , which he recorded in Morocco. It became a huge hit with tracks like Bad Boy 4 Life and I Need a Girl . The latter not least through remixes by artists such as Ginuwine , Mario Winans , Usher , Loon and many more. He also played a major role in the American version of Making the Band2 , which was broadcast by MTV from 2002.
On October 17, 2006, his supposedly last album was released, which is called Press Play .
On May 2, 2008, he became the first male rapper to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame . In 2010 he made an appearance in the movie Men's Trip .
In December 2010 Combs released the single I'm On You with the Russian rapper Timati .
In 2011 Combs released the album Last Train to Paris with his new group Diddy-Dirty Money . Diddy-Dirty Money consists of the singers Dawn Richard and Kalenna Harper in addition to Combs and was founded in 2009.
Personal
Combs has two sons (Justin, * 1993 and Christian, * 1998); his twin daughters and his other daughter were all three born in 2006, and he has a stepson (* 1991). In total, the children are of three different women.
Combs' former partner and mother of three children, Kim Porter, was found dead on November 15, 2018.
