After a series of attacks by pirates and looters, they moved to what is now central Barangay. That is why Pakil extends over two areas east and west of the lake.
In 1571 Pakil was colonized by the Spaniards under the leadership of Gat Paquil, whose name was used for the settlement. The name "Paquil" persisted throughout the Spanish regime and also at the beginning of the American period. In 1927 the name was changed to "Pakil".
