Patrick Karl (born May 3, 1996 in Ochsenfurt ) is a German athlete who specializes in obstacle course .

career path

Karl is a police officer and is training with the Bavarian riot police (BBPol).

Athletic career

As a child, his parents introduced him, his sister and his brother to the sport through forest runs. In 2012 Karl became German U18 champion over 2000 meters in Rheydt . In 2013 he was able to become German U18 champion again in Rostock and took 10th place internationally over 2000 meters at the U18 World Championships in Donetsk . In 2014, Karl was German U20 runner-up over 2000 meters in Wattenscheid and came 12th at the U20 World Championships in Eugene (Oregon) over the longer 3000 meter obstacle distance. In 2015 he won the championship title on the 2000-meter obstacle course at the German Youth Championships in Jena and was U20 Vice European Champion over 3000 meters in Eskilstuna .

From 2016 onwards, due to age, Karl only competed over the 3000 meter obstacle. In Wattenscheid he won the U23 championship title at the German Junior Championships and was German runner-up in Kassel . In 2017 he won the U23 runner-up at the German Junior Championships in Leverkusen and came in 5th at the German Championships . In 2018 Karl became German U23 champion in Heilbronn and German runner-up in Nuremberg .

Karl has been part of the perspective squad of the German Athletics Association (DLV) since the competitive sports reform 2017/18 .

Trivia

Patrick Karl comes from a sports-loving family. His mother competes in marathons and his father Klaus, who also trains him, was once an obstacle runner himself with a best time of 9: 05.68 min in 1986. His uncle Hubert Karl was German champion in the 3,000-meter obstacle course in 8:27 in 1989 , 95 min.
