Patte d'Oie is one of the 19 districts (Communes d'arrondissement du Sénégal) of Dakar , the capital of Senegal . The name (in German literally: crow's foot, here meaning fork in the Y-shape of a crow's footprint) is derived from the location at the most important road crossing on the outskirts of Dakar.

geography

Patte d'Oie is an elongated urban district in the northern interior of the Cap-Vert peninsula . The east-west extension is around three and a half kilometers, the south-north extension is around 800 meters.

In the west, Patte d'Oie is bounded by the four-lane expressway Voie de Dégagement Nord (VDN) . The southern border follows Autoroute 1 and the avenue Seydina Limamoulaye , which branches off to the west at the “crow's foot” fork , formerly known as route de l'aéroport , as it led to the former Dakar-Léopold Sédar Senghor airport . The northern boundary of the borough follows the northern feeder road to the Stade Léopold Sédar Senghor and the Route des Niayes . In the east, Patte d'Oie extends to the road that leads south from Cambérène to the N 1 .

The municipality has an area of 3.1 km². Neighboring clockwise are the districts of Hann-Bel Air and Grand Yoff in the south, Yoff in the west, Parcelles Assainies in the north and in the east, beyond the city limits, lies the neighboring town of Guédiawaye .

With the exception of the wetlands of the Niayes in the eastern part, the municipality is fully built up and densely populated. Intensive horticulture is practiced in the Niayes . Standing waters can also be found there.
