Pavel Košťál ( [pavɛl ˈkɔʃʄaˑl] ; born September 17, 1980 in Hradec Králové , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech football player who is used in central defense .

Career

Beginnings in the Czech Republic

Košťál, who was born in the Czechoslovakian town of Hradec Králové, began his football career at the age of seven with Sokol Praskačka, a club from the Královér suburb of Praskačka . As early as 1989 Košťál moved to the most successful club in town, the SK Hradec Králové and subsequently went through all of the youth teams.

After the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993, the Gambrinus League was formed as the top division of the newly formed Czech Republic, in which SK Hradec Králové had also participated at times. In 1999/2000 the club was relegated from this division, but in 2000/01 it was able to achieve immediate promotion from the second-rate Druhá League . In the following first division season 2001/02 , the team therefore initially played against relegation again, with coach Petr Ulicný also used Koš Koál for the first time. So this came on December 2, 2001 by substitution for his debut in the top division of the Czech Republic, but he had to wait for further assignments until a new substitute in May 2002. Although Hradec Králové finally reached the league as twelfth in the final table, Košťál then moved to the club in the summer of 2002.

Košťál subsequently joined FC MUS Most , who played in the second-rate Druhá League in 2002/03. Under coach Michal Zach he immediately established himself as a regular player in the team from Most in northern Bohemia and played 27 of 30 games this season. The team ended up only in fifth place in the final table and thus missed promotion to the top division. In the first half of 2003/04 Košťál then played in another 15 games for Most in the second division, but also made those responsible for the first division club FC Slovan Liberec attention, so he moved to Liberec during the winter break .

In Liberec Košťál could not initially prevail as a regular player and was used by coach Vítězslav Lavička in the second half of the 2003/04 season only on the last three game days, which were hardly important for Liberecs sporting performance in the midfield of the table. Also in the following season 2004/05 , in which Liberec could only improve slightly with fifth place in the final table, Košťál was initially not a regular player, but was able to offer himself more and more often for the starting lineup from the second half of the season at the latest. Košťál had also played for Liberec in the UEFA Intertoto Cup , for which the club had been able to qualify through league placements in both 2004 and 2005 , but Liberec failed to qualify for the UEFA Cup in both events.

2005/06 Košťál was finally the top performer in the team still supervised by Lavička and played in 27 of the 30 games of the season, after which Liberec took first place in the final table and thus won the second championship in the club's history. In qualifying for the 2006/07 UEFA Champions League Košťál failed with Liberec at Spartak Moscow , but then took part in the 2006/07 UEFA Cup , from which the team was eliminated in the group stage.

In the 2006/07 league operations Košťál meanwhile completed 29 missions for Liberec, but the club did not defend their title, so instead the fourth place was occupied, which only entitled to repeated participation in the Intertoto Cup. Also in 2007/08 Liberec did not succeed in building on the previous performances, which also did not change the coaching change from Lavička to Ladislav Škorpil . After 25 missions, Košťál only finished sixth with the club.

2008/09 Košťál played another 28 times for Liberec in the Gambrinus League, in which the club finally finished third in the table. At the end of the season he not only left Liberec, but also moved from the Czech Republic to Austria . In total, he had played 129 league games for the club.

Via Austria to Germany

In the summer of 2009 Košťál signed a two-year contract with Bundesliga promoted SC Wiener Neustadt . With the team, initially trained by Helmut Kraft and from winter by Peter Schöttel , Košťál played in 31 league games in 2009/10 and finished fifth in the table at the end of the season. In addition, he reached the final of the 2010 ÖFB Cup with the team , which however was lost 0-1 against Sturm Graz . In the 2010/11 division , Košťál then played 29 more times for Wiener Neustadt before leaving the club for Germany in the summer of 2011 .

Košťál had already signed a two-year contract with FC Hansa Rostock at the end of May 2011 , in which he was considered a designated performer in the defense in the plans of coach Peter Vollmann for the 2011/12 season of the German 2nd Bundesliga . Also due to a fatigue fracture in his foot, Vollmann was only able to use it eight times in the 2nd Bundesliga during the first half of the season. In the first two games of the second half of the season, Wolfgang Wolf , who had succeeded Vollmann as coach of relegation-threatened FC Hansa after the first half of the season, relied on Košťál's services, but these were his last appearances for Rostock: In January 2012, Košťál had one Undergo an operation that had become necessary due to complications during the healing of his broken foot, so that he was no longer available for the rest of the season. With the relegation of Rostock at the end of the season, Košťál's contract with Hansa then lost its validity, whereupon he left the club.

Return to the Czech Republic

After a one-year break, Košťál was signed for a year by Czech first division club FC Zbrojovka Brno in October 2013 .
