Per Fischer (born January 3, 1923 in Oslo , † December 7, 1999 in Bonn ) was a German diplomat .

biography

The son of a diplomat studied French , law and newspaper studies at the University of Lausanne , the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and the University of Vienna after attending school . After graduating as Dr. phil. After the Second World War he worked as a journalist for Radio Bremen and several daily newspapers .

In 1951 he worked for the General Secretariat of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg and then between 1957 and 1960 for the Western European Union (WEU) in Paris . He was then from 1960 to 1962 Cabinet Director of the President of the European Parliament Hans Furler .

In 1962 he entered the diplomatic service and during his preparatory service initially worked in the Political Department of the Foreign Office .

In 1965 he was appointed ambassador to Chad as successor to Hans Ferdinand Linsser . After his return to Germany, he worked from 1968 to 1969 on the planning staff of the Federal Foreign Ministry.

During the term of office of Federal Chancellor Willy Brandt , he worked for the Federal Chancellery from 1969 to 1974 . There he was responsible in particular for questions of development policy , the Middle East policy and the Middle East and was promoted to lecturer first class in 1970 and in 1972 to ministerial director.

In July 1974 he was appointed ambassador to Israel as the successor to Jesco von Puttkamer . He held this office until he was replaced by the previous Governing Mayor of Berlin Klaus Schütz in 1977.

Between 1978 and 1979 he was permanent representative at the United Nations (UN) office in Geneva , where he succeeded Carl-Werner Sanne . Ulrich Sahm followed him . He himself was appointed ambassador to the People's Republic of China and remained accredited there until 1987.

He later worked as a professor at the Institute for Political Science at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz .

Per Fischer died in Bonn in 1999 at the age of 76. His grave is in the Dahlem Forest Cemetery in Berlin.
