Pearls of German-speaking pop music

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Perlen Deutschsprachiger Popmusik is a series of compilations edited by Franz Dobler and published by Trikont that brings together German-language songs from 1980 to 2009.

construction

The compilations all have the word "Mama" in the title, derived from the opening song of the first compilation Wo ist zu hause Mama? by Johnny Cash . The idea for this came from Ale Sexfeind ( The Golden Lemons ). Each sampler begins with a US artist singing a German-language song. The sampler is composed of unpublished and previously published songs. The musical spectrum ranges from chansons and songwriters to German-speaking punk and hardcore punk . Each compilation contains detailed liner notes by Franz Dobler, a short biography of the artist or the song lyrics.

Where's mom at home

As the only album in the series, the first track is preceded by a short intro . The intro was taken from the title The Sound of Music by FSK . Dobler explains in an essay what German-language music meant to him and his surprise when he was confronted with the German-language music of the 1990s for the first time through L'age d'or . The album was released in 1995 and has a total of 24 songs plus an intro. The lyrics are printed next to a photo of the respective artist.

The best of the east was taken from a demo of Erdmöbel The band signed to Sony Music shortly afterwards .

The songwriter Florian Zwietnig, who was discovered by Trikont in 1996, hides behind Flo.

Woman with Typewriter on Dance Floor is an instrumental song from Naked Navy. The group consists of former members of Die Goldenen Zitronen , Motion and Dackelblut , as well as some musicians from the jazz scene.

Song info

The opening song I am set for love from head to toe by the writer William S. Burroughs is a cover version by Marlene Dietrich . Burroughs used the so-called cut-up technique, a kind of collage technique that he also used in literature.

Everything that is missing from Viva Maria! comes from their first vinyl single from 1994. The remix published here was made by DJ Thomilla and Andreas Sänger. The lyrics were taken from a speech by Rudi Dutschke .

Knarf Rellöms Zweifel is in the House was created with the participation of the group Die Aeronauten , who were represented in the second part of the compilation.

Richie Nell came across this compilation by accident. The interpreter had sent his demo to the Trikont record company, but left no address.

Happy people handed Dobler a demo cassette after a concert. He was so impressed that he included the group on this compilation.

Hermann Halb, a former member of Merzbow and the Lassie Singers, hides behind the pseudonym Halb .

The streets of Obergiesing consists of dialog snippets from the TV series Funkstreife Isar 12 and was taken from the compilation Unterwegs mit Isar 12 .

On the Road Again Mama

On the Road Again Mama was released by Trikont after a nine-year break in 2007 on the occasion of the 33 ⅓ year anniversary (33 ⅓ is the most common number of revolutions for long-playing records ).
