Peter George (weightlifter)

Peter George (born June 29, 1929 in Akron , Ohio ) is a retired American weightlifter .

Career

Peter George came into contact with weightlifting as a high school student. He made such rapid progress that in 1946, at the age of 17, he was American champion and at the age of 18 he was world champion in Philadelphia in 1947 , beating the weightlifting legend Olympic champion Anthony Terlazzo . Then he started in all Olympic Games and World Championships until 1956 and won a total of five times. Its reliability was remarkable. From 1946 to 1957 he was either winner or he finished second at all major events in which he started. In 1953 he achieved an extraordinary performance when he trained 8 kg in order to be able to start at the lightweight for team tactical reasons.

Pete George studied dentistry and was a dentist in the United States Army and then in Florida .

  • 1957, 1st place, Wed, with 385 kg, ahead of Giller, 372.5 kg
