Petriano (in the local dialect Petriän ) is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 2784 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Pesaro and Urbino in the Marche region . The municipality is located about 20 kilometers southwest of Pesaro and about 10 kilometers northeast of Urbino and is part of the Comunità montana Alto e Medio Metauro .

history

The place name is said to be derived from the designation over the three rivers ( prae tres amnes ). The first documentary mention from 1096 does not prove this, even if two other small rivers exist in the vicinity besides the Apso .
