Mondolfo

Mondolfo is an Italian municipality with 14,340 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the extreme east of the province of Pesaro and Urbino , on the hills above the Cesano river in the Marche region .

Mondolfo borders with a length of over 20 kilometers within the province of Pesaro on the municipalities of Fano and San Costanzo , as well as on the province of Ancona with the municipalities of Senigallia and Trecastelli and to the east on the Adriatic Sea . It was the favorable position that protected Mondolfo from the attacks of the barbarians and corsairs and that prompted the Della Rovere dukes of Urbino to build one of the most beautiful and safest fortresses to date. To this day, in memory of this time, the ducal crown is in the city coat of arms. Mondolfo is the fourth largest municipality in the province of Pesaro-Urbino and a member of the association I borghi più belli d'Italia (The Most Beautiful Places in Italy).
