history

A church building in Schardenberg was mentioned in a document in 1130. At the time of the early church organization in the Middle Ages, Schardenberg was a branch of the original parish of St. Severin . In 1182, St. Severin and the "Innbruckamt" responsible for the administration of the Inn Bridge were incorporated into the St. Aegidien Hospital in the city center . Since then, the “Innbruckamt” has also administered the parishes incorporated into the hospital, which were to be assigned by the respective “Bruck pastor”. In addition to St. Severin with Schardenberg and Wernstein , these included St. Weihflorian , Kellberg , Hauzenberg , Kopfing , Münzkirchen and Tettenweis . Soon after the incorporation of St. Severin, the seat of this parish became the hospital church St. Aegidien / St. Gilgen, where he remained until 1653. Schardenberg has been an independent parish since 1785.

The baroque tower of the Schardenberg parish church was built in 1741 by the master builder Johann Ceregetti from Rieder. The nave was rebuilt from 1908 to 1910 according to the plans of the cathedral builder Matthäus Schlager . The church tower was renovated in 1928, 1951; In 2008 the entire church was restored.

Furnishing

The frescoes in the interior are by Engelbert Daringer ; the ceiling paintings were made between 1920 and 1921. They show the distribution of the church treasures by St. Lawrence and his martyrdom. Confessionals, communion bench, holy water container and pulpit were made by Simon Rabeder from 1911 to 1914, partly according to his own designs, partly according to those of master builder Schlager. The pulpit basket shows a representation of the Sermon on the Mount and was designed by Josef Ignaz Sattler . The Way of the Cross from 1911 was designed by Ludwig Max Linzinger . Next to the organ there is a sculpture of St. Cecilia .

In 1889 a new high altar was installed in the church; this was later sold. Today's altar in Empire style dates from 1915. The tabernacle originally belonged to the furnishings of the parish church in Burgkirchen near Wels. The side altars show St. Joseph and St. Mary ; they were designed by Rabeder between 1911 and 1913.

The original organ of the church is now in the Schönau branch church in Bad Schallerbach . Today's organ was built by the Steininger brothers in Obertrattnach as a mechanical organ with 19 stops on two manuals and a pedal and consecrated on June 28, 1931. The design of the organ case with three round arches in the neoclassic style comes from the Ottensheim sculptor Simon Rabeder (1862–1941).
