The Tengelmann E-Stores GmbH (until 2014 Plus Online GmbH ) is an Internet mail order of discount sector . It emerged from the Plus Warenhandelsgesellschaft and operates the Plus.de and GartenXXL platforms . The Tengelmann Group does not publish figures on its subsidiaries, but the company has been profitable since 2004 , according to " Internet World Business ". Plus Online is also one of the three largest online advertisers in German e-commerce (2007) and the newsletter has a high reach with more than 1 million subscribers (2006; own information).

history

In 2001, Plus started an e-commerce platform with plus.de as the first large discounter in Europe. Once only intended as a department of the Plus Warenhandelsgesellschaft, the shop developed so successfully that it became its own subsidiary as part of the renovation of the Tengelmann Group.

In February 2013, GartenXXL (www.gartenxxl.de) went online as the second shop. As part of the multi-brand strategy, the company was renamed Tengelmann E-Stores GmbH in 2014.

In October 2014 it was announced that Plus Online GmbH, along with the Kaiser's Tengelmann supermarket chain , will be sold to EDEKA on June 30, 2015 and, like Plus Warenhandelsgesellschaft mbH, will be integrated into the Netto Marken-Discount subsidiary . Since the Federal Cartel Office refused the sale, the sale has so far been subject to a ministerial reservation.

The online shops Plus.de and GartenXXL have been operated by NeS GmbH ( N etto e - S tores) since the beginning of 2017 and are therefore part of the EDEKA subsidiary Netto Marken-Discount. The Plus online shop was integrated into the Netto Marken-Discount online shop from January 1, 2019 and the website was discontinued under Plus.de, GartenXXL will remain as an independent website.

Plus.de

The online shop of Plus Online GmbH was found under Plus.de. This was not affected by the takeover of the Plus branches by EDEKA and thus initially remained as a company in the Tengelmann Group.

There are the following product categories in the range, some of which changes weekly: Household & Cooking, Office Equipment, Living & Design, Lamps & Lights, Bath & Wellness, Health & Care, Fitness, Sport & Leisure, Home & DIY, Garden & Balcony, Grilling & BBQ , Cars & two-wheelers, mobile communications, multimedia & technology, fashion & accessories, kids & Co. The Plus Online Shop also tries to play a role as a price leader. Plus is the first and only discounter to have a virtual branch in the Second Life online community , where it offers virtual products in the “Small Price Land”. The Plus Online Shop was also the first shop to sell and advertise Windows Vista nationwide. Plus Online was the first discounter to enter the market for medical aids and is now one of its main focuses. Plus offers blood pressure monitors, wheelchairs, defibrillators , contact lenses, bathtub aids and stair lifts. The Plus Online Shop often attracts attention with particularly bizarre products or products that are unusual in the discount area. So you could buy a complete wedding with a civil ceremony, champagne reception , evening buffet, musical entertainment and coffee table with wedding cake. In Austria there was also an offer for a botox treatment. Cars, saunas, trips, electricity or even houses have already been in the Plus online shop's range.

Plus.de was discontinued on December 31, 2018. Since then, the site has referred to the Netto Marken-Discount online shop .

Online pharmacy

At www.kleinepreise.de Plus Online, in cooperation with the Zur Rose pharmacy , opened an online drug store. Plus was the first big discounter to enter this branch.

Austria

Plus was also the first food discounter in Austria with an online shop. Since the plus stores there will only be operated under the name Zielpunkt in the future, only online specials or online store items will be advertised on www.plus.co.at. The corporate division and the branch offers can be found there under the website of the Zielpunkt Warenhandelsgesellschaft.

Awards

In September 2006, Plus was awarded the “Online Company of the Convergence Award 2006” at the Online Marketing Düsseldorf (OMD) trade fair . Plus was recognized for its cross-media advertising, which combines online appearances and advertising with TV spots and print ads. Plus also received the “Client Award” from the communications magazine Kontakter for the April 2008 online campaign. In the November issue of Computer Bild, Plus Online's travel website was the test winner in the test of six discount travel operators.
