The Pocohuanca district is located in the Aymaraes province in the Apurímac region in central southern Peru . The district was founded on October 8, 1951. It has an area of ​​87.6 km². The 2017 census counted 1066 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1312, in 2007 1158. The district administration is located in the 3180  m high village of Pocohuanca with 295 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pocohuanca is 19 km east-northeast of the provincial capital Chalhuanca .

Geographical location

The district of Pocohuanca is located in the Andean highlands in the east of the province of Aymaraes. The Río Antabamba crosses the district in a north-westerly direction.

The Pocohuanca district is bordered to the west by the district Yanaca , on the north by the district Tapairihua , in the northeast to the districts of El Oro , Pachaconas and Sabaino (all three in the province Antabamba ) and in the south by the district Chalhuanca .
