The Puyuma Express ( Chinese 普 悠 瑪 號 , Pinyin Pǔyōumǎ Hào ) is a train category of the Railway Administration of Taiwan (TRA). Trains with tilting technology are used . Scheduled operations began on February 6, 2013 during the Chinese New Year celebrations .
The Puyuma Express was put into service to better develop the east coast of Taiwan. As there are often traffic jams on the roads due to the topographical situation, the Puyuma-Express is a fast and comfortable alternative. The maximum speed of the Puyuma-Express is 150 km / h. It is therefore the fastest train category in the TRA. Only tickets with a seat reservation are available.
Origin of name
The word "Puyuma" means "together", "united" in the Puyuma language spoken by the indigenous Puyuma people of eastern Taiwan. This word was selected after a public naming competition.
Rolling stock
For the Puyuma-Express, multiple units with tilting technology of the TEMU2000 series, which were built by Nippon Sharyo , are used. The TRA acquired a total of 136 cars. The first 16 cars reached Taiwan on October 25, 2012.
Misfortunes
- On 21 October 2018 a Puyama Express derailed in Xinma in Yilan County at 16:50 local time. 18 people were killed and 187 injured.
