The Quinua District is located in the Huamanga Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district has an area of ​​121 km². The 2017 census counted 5,385 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 5571, in 2007 it was 6115. The district administration is located in the small town of Quinua, 3396  m high, with 2193 inhabitants (as of 2017). Quinua is located 15 km northeast of the provincial and regional capital Ayacucho (Huamanga). North-east of Quinua is the Obelisco de la Batalla de Ayacucho, a war memorial that commemorates the Battle of Ayacucho in 1824.

Geographical location

The Quinua district is located in the Andean highlands in the northeast of the Huamanga province. The Río Yucay, right tributary of the Río Cachi , flows along the southwestern district boundary to the northwest and drains the area.

The district of Quinua borders in the southwest with the districts Tambillo and Jesús Nazareno , in the northwest with the districts Pacaycasa and Huamanguilla ( province Huanta ), in the northeast with the districts Tambo and San Miguel (both in the province La Mar ) and in the southeast with the district Acos Vinchos .
