The Ruchi ( 3,107  m above sea level ) is a mountain in the Glarus Alps between Linthal and Waltensburg / Vuorz in the cantons of Glarus and Graubünden in Switzerland . The name Ruchi denotes desolate rubble heaps ( Swiss German : ruch = rough).

geography

The Ruchi belongs to the Hausstockgruppe, a subgroup of the Glarus Alps . It lies between the Hausstock ( 3158  m above sea level ) and the Kistenpass ( 2729  m above sea level ). The canton border between Glarus and Graubünden and the municipality border between Glarus Süd and Waltensburg / Vuorz run over the summit .

At the foot of its western flank is the Muttsee . On the east side of the Ruchi has a glacier, the Glatscher da Gavirolas .

The neighboring peaks include the Chli Ruchi, the Hausstock, the Piz Fluaz , the Muttenstock , the Nüschenstock , the Rüchi , the Scheidstöckli and the Hintersulzhorn .

Valley locations are Tierfehd , Pigniu , Andiast and Waltensburg / Vuorz . A frequent starting point is the Muttseehütte .

flora

On the summit of the Ruchi there is a sparse vegetation of lichens (e.g. Thamnolia vermicularis ), mosses and cushion plants .

rock

The Ruchigipfel consists of a cap made of Verrucano of the Mürtschendecke about 50 meters thick. The summit represents a culmination of Mürtschendecke by the thrust limit the Glarus thrust falls to the north, east and south.

Wind station

One of 160 wind stations of the Intercantonal Measurement and Information System (IMIS) is located on the summit of the Ruchi . The system is operated in cooperation with the federal government, cantons, municipalities, the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF and other interest groups. The associated snow station is located next to the Muttsee , at 2,474  m above sea level. M. The wind station measures wind speed (mean and peak), wind direction, air temperature and relative humidity every half hour. The avalanche warning service and safety officers throughout Switzerland are thus provided with the latest information from remote and / or inaccessible areas. The data can be viewed on the SLF website.
