Ralf Bockstedte

Ralf Bockstedte (born December 6, 1971 in Essen ) is a German player advisor , lecturer , politician , Olympic ambassador, sports manager and lawyer . His clients include Lewis Holtby and former international Malik Fathi .

Life

Ralf Bockstedte was born on December 6, 1971 in Essen . When he was three and a half years old, doctors found that his spinal cord was growing more slowly than the rest of his body. What in the first few years initially only resulted in restricted movement after the growth spurts, at the age of 16 led to his spinal cord finally tearing, which led to incomplete paraplegia . Ralf Bockstedte has been in a wheelchair ever since. Only a few cases of this disability are known worldwide, in Germany there are 14.

Bockstedte attended Seaford College, Petworth in West Sussex , England and then began studying law in Heidelberg , where he passed the first state examination in 1997. Among other things, he did his legal clerkship in a law firm specializing in media law in Sydney , Australia . After the second state examination in 1999 and a year as an employed lawyer , he founded the tax consultancy and law firm Bockstedte & Partner in 2000 . His main focus was on sports law. He separated from the firm on January 1, 2018 and has been working as a lawyer under his own name in the law firm for national and international sports law.

He is lecturing on this subject as a guest lecturer at various universities and is currently preparing his dissertation on the subject of sports marketing at Anglia Ruskin University Cambridge. He is currently a lecturer at the Sports Business Campus , which, in cooperation with the Steinbeis University in Berlin , offers courses and further training in sports management at the football clubs SpVgg Greuther Fürth and VfL Wolfsburg, for example in the premises of the ESPRIT arena , the venue of the Fortuna Düsseldorf football club .

Activities in football

In addition to his work as a lawyer, Ralf Bockstedte is a player advisor , sports advisor and manager and soccer coach . He passed the players agent exam at the DFB in 2008 and has been a licensed player agent ever since. Then he founded the player agency players' interests together with the former Bundesliga professionals Ingo Anderbrügge and Stefan Blank . His most prominent clients include the former national players Malik Fathi and Lewis Holtby , in whose transfer to Tottenham Hotspur he was instrumental.

In 2011, Bockstedte was the first and only wheelchair user to take part in the DFB's trainer course and received today's trainer B license. Among other things, he worked as a volunteer trainer in Ingo Anderbrügge's soccer school called “Fußballfabrik” until December 2018 , where he coached children and young people.

Bockstedte is also a member of the board of the BundesBehindertenFanArbeitsGemeinschaft (BBAG), which works closely with the DFB and DFL as a mouthpiece for disabled football fans and, among other things, strives to ensure accessibility in German stadiums. Together with the Bundesliga Foundation, BBAG is the publisher of the Bundesliga travel guide “Accessible to the stadium”. Since November 2016, he has been a board member of the German Football Players 'Agents Association, the umbrella organization for players' agents in Germany.

Activities in golf and (e) sports

In addition to his preoccupation with football , Bockstedte is mainly active in golf . He is President of the Disabled Golf Club Germany (BGC) and board member of the Hösel Golf Club, which plays with their men's team in the 1st Bundesliga and their women's team in the 2nd Bundesliga. In connection with these activities, he develops concepts that should enable barrier-free golf courses and golf for people with disabilities. He is currently working to have golf included in the Paralympic Games program. Ralf Bockstedte is also Chairman of the “Everyone has a handicap” initiative, which sees sport as an opportunity for social inclusion. The initiative is supported by numerous celebrities, among other things, it awards a seal of approval for barrier-free sports facilities in cooperation with the EUKOBA (European Competence Center for Accessibility).

At the Association Day 2019, he was elected with 100% of the votes in the presence of the President of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), Alfons Hörmann , as Good Governance Officer and Chairman of the Control and Arbitration Committee of the German Golf Association (DGV). Bockstedte also represents the DGV within the European Golf Association for Golfers with Disabilities (EDGA), where he is also the Chairman of the Legal Penal. Since January 2019 Director for Sustainability, Corporate Social Responsibility and Accessibly of the European Long Drive Association (ELDA).

In November 2019, he was appointed the official Olympic ambassador by the Lord Mayor of Essen , Thomas Kufen , and supports the 2032 application for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in the Rhine-Ruhr region . In November 2018 he took part in the first unofficial world championship for golfers in wheelchairs (1st International Wheelachair Golf Open Championships) on Mallorca in the official national jersey for the first time.

Ralf Bockstedte is also a member of the following organizations: International Sport Lawyers Association (ISLA), Network Sport of the CDU Germany and AG Sportrecht in the German Lawyers' Association .

Ralf Bockstedte is committed to e-sports and gives lectures on this topic, for example at the German Lawyers' Conference, the ISPO in Munich or the SPOBIS. He looks after athletes, agencies and sponsors as a lawyer, consultant and sports manager, also in the field of sports marketing.

Activities in politics

Ralf Bockstedte has been a member of the CDU since October 1991 and is currently deputy chairman of the Altendorf-Frohnhausen branch. In 2016 he was appointed to the sport network of the CDU Germany, to which he has been a member since then. Since 2019 he has been a member of the board of the district association of the CDU Essen. He is currently a council candidate for the local elections on September 13, 2020, among other things, with the aim of expanding his involvement in the relationship between inclusion and sport regionally and nationally. At the same time, he is applying as a candidate for the federal elections in 2021.
