Random Encounters is produced since 2011. Musical - web series , which was created through the collaboration of AJ Pinkerton and Peter Srinivasan. The series is partnered with Polaris from Maker Studios and was previously part of IGN Entertainment .

The first episode to air on YouTube was A Pikachu Song and was uploaded on June 7, 2011. Each episode contains its own musical number, which is often created in collaboration with live-action actors and cosplayers . Scenes are recreated or protagonists from various video games, such as The Legend of Zelda or Pokémon, portrayed. The idea of creating a web series came up back in 2010 when a parody musical for Sonic the Hedgehog won a prize in a competition initiated by Sega .

Since the opening of a YouTube channel, Pinkerton and Srinivasan have appeared with their pieces at various festivals and conventions.

history

The history of Random Encounters goes back to 2010 when AJ Pinkerton and Peter Srinivasan submitted and won Needlemouse: The Musical - based on Sonic the Hedgehog - an entry for a competition started by the video game manufacturer Sega . SEGA asked the two to perform their song at the Sonic Boom Community Event the following year. This performance sparked increased interest in such pieces, so Pinkerton and Srinivasan decided to write and produce more short musical pieces based on video games.

On June 7, 2011, the official YouTube channel was closed and the first video production was published with the piece A Pikachu Song . Pinkerton collaborated on various videos with well-known web video producers such as Markiplier and NateWantsToBattle .

style

Unlike many other game series, Random Encounters target both young and adult audiences. Her songs are often funny and self-censoring, for example by ignoring a fixed rhyme scheme to avoid swear words and curses . Short videos that are about video games or adult films include light-hearted versions of the characters featured in the themed media rather than their actual in-game versions.

The music in her pieces varies widely, typically incorporating fun rhythms and a fast tempo. Some pieces are strongly tied to originals, such as Disney pieces or game themes. The humor in their songs is derived from their lyrics, which are often a reference to in-game events, memes or pop culture .
