Rare (dt .: "rare" ) is the third solo album of American singer and actress Selena Gomez . The studio album was released on January 10, 2020. Rare is the third studio album that Gomez has released under the record label Interscope Records . Gomez stated that this album was her diary from the past few years.

In an interview for Apple Music on the topic of their upcoming studio album Rare , Gomez said that the tracklist would go well together after being put in order.
Gomez appeared on the radio show On Air with Ryan Seacrest, and said she had "a million ideas and it just gets cooler and it gets stronger and it gets better". She later told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show that the album would have a "strong pop feel" and that she was experimenting with electric guitar. She also told Fallon that it "took four years to even feel in a good place with this album".

The album was first announced and named on Gomez's Instagram page. There she released the cover and an excerpt from the album's title track, Rare .
The studio album was promoted through the pre-release of the singles Lose You to Love Me on October 23, 2019 and Look at Her Now on October 24, 2019. On November 24, 2019, Gomez performed at the 2019 American Music Awards with Lose You to Love Me and Look at Her Now to promote her album. She was also on the Tonight Show to discuss the release of Rare.
