Reinhold Brinkmann

Reinhold Brinkmann (born August 21, 1934 in Wildeshausen ; † October 10, 2010 in Eckernförde ) was a German musicologist .

Life

Brinkmann, who in after studying music education and German 1967 Freiburg with a dissertation on Schoenberg's op piano pieces. 11 doctorate was habilitated in 1970 at the Free University of Berlin , where he first became a professor also. From 1972 to 1980 he taught at the Philipps University in Marburg , then again in Berlin until 1985, this time at the Berlin University of the Arts . Since 1985 he has taught at Harvard University . In 2001 Brinkmann was awarded the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize before being elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2002.

He worked with widely distributed publications mainly in the field of the theory and history of music from the 18th to the 20th century with a special focus on the interdisciplinary aspects of music.

Reinhold Brinkmann was buried at sea .
